Community sites may be on the rise

We created Biofind from a website I found on the web called the “Biotech Rumor Mill”.

Biofind It was run by a British postgrad student who was working at Boston University, and so I went over to the US and brought it back. That was in 1997, and the site has been well used by the Biotech industry community worldwide ever since we launched it as Biofind in 1998.

However, over the years we have struggled to make it commercially viable, but with the surge in popularity of blogging and the enhanced status of “internet free speech” gaining currency, we feel it is time to revisit the site and develop some new features. One of our student interns is re-writing the site in .Net2 and slowly adding new functionality. This time round we will be a bit more focused on creating a sustainable revenue from the site.

Again Google technology comes to the fore – with the growing popularity of Adsense banners we have started to make some revenues from the Biofind traffic without having to employ sales people. The site will be completely redeveloped by October. For those of you who are interested, we will be posting up the developments as they occur on this blog.
