NABShow – New Media 2.0 production in Las Vegas

Well here I am at the Convention Center in Las Vegas, where I have been attending the Nab Show conference seminar sessions on New Media 2.0 production.

Bill_at_nabI am also here to support the launch of the newAMS-Neve website which we launched this week and coincides with the attendance at the NAB show for the company. I will be reporting on the success of AMS Neve at the show, later – but for now I would like to tell you about on the conference sessions I attended today. Morning Session: Boot Camp. Emerging Web 2.0 technologies you need to know about.

Todd Marks (information architect) and Bill Spencer (flash guru) from mindgrub.com and viaplace.com ran through the "Web 2.0 emerging technologies you need to know about". They covered a program which is detailed in this link, but specifically they are interested in how mobile Internet will add to the geo-location aspect to search and browsing which will allow you to search and retrieve information based on your geo-location.

They described the features of viaplace.com a site they have been working on which will allow you to search for shops, restaurants and services with geo-location slant. I agreed to keep in touch with Todd and Bill and perhaps get him/them across to the UK to give a talk!

In the afternoon sessions, I listened to Lee Gibbons CEO and founder of Podango talk about his perceptions on "Collaborative Tools for New Media" and "The intersection of Social Network Marketing and New Media"

Lee’s site Podango lets podcasters host and manage their own shows or stations using the company’s hosting, syndication, audience measurement and Web site creation tools. The company also offers publishers an embeddable podcast player for use in websites. Hosting their programs at Podango for free, station owners earn income by sharing advertising revenue from the aggregate of Podango-hosted stations.

During his session on Collaborative tools, Lee discussed the merits of Basecamp and the other 37 Signals products such as Highrise and Campfire. I got a chance to let him know about our own developments with BCToolkit, an application which allows you to create custom reports on Basecamp by tapping into the API.

Lee also talked to me about the possibility of giving a presentation at one of KMP Seminars in London in June. Watch this space!

I think you raise a very important point about the use of geo-location in mobiles.

At the moment, we are getting excited about the enhanced browsing capabilities devices like the iPhone bring, when in fact, the REAL hook to opening up the mobile phone as THE social networking tool is to use its location/roaming capabilities.

Exciting stuff, so make sure you keep us up to date!
