Toulouse Airport is hoping to create seamless passage through their terminal by becoming the first Airport to test out Near Field Communication (NFC).
This summer, Toulouse Airport will allow 50 passengers, equipped with NFC enabled Balckberry phones, to check-in, pass through security and board there plane only using their phones. The NFC points will also be used for Parking and passenger lounge payments, all with a simple tap of their phone.
The project has been developed by SITA Lab and Orange Business Services. Below is a video explaining the process.
It will be interesting to see the results of the test as we are now seeing more and more NFC enabled phones coming onto the market.
Although the development of NFC could have huge benefits for airports, a study by eDigital Research showed that consumers knowledge of NFC is still pretty low.
- 33% of people have not heard of it
- 35% of people would not use NFC because of security concerns
There is some positive findings in the research though with 89% of people who have tried NFC transactions saying they would definately use it in the future where possible.
